Wilmington- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a one car fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early this morning in north Wilmington.

The incident occurred as Steven Yoder, 43, of West Grove, PA was operating a 2005 BMW and was traveling southbound on US Rt. 202 at an apparent high rate of speed. As Yoder’s vehicle entered the on ramp to I-95 southbound, he failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and drove off of the east edge of the roadway. The driver’s side of the BMW then struck a tree before rotating in a clockwise direction where it then came to rest in the grassy area.

Steven Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. A passenger in Yoder’s vehicle, a 35 year old West Grove, PA man, was transferred from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

Speed and alcohol are considered to be contributing factors in this crash. Steven Yoder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. This crash remains under investigation.
