UPDATE SEASHORE HIGHWAY AND COKESBURY CRASH

Resume Update 05/01/11:                                                                             

Bridgeville-Delaware State Police has received information from Christiana Hospital representatives that Mary S. Green-76 of Warrenton Virginia has died from injuries she sustained in an April 30th morning crash.

 

Mary S. Green was a passenger on her husband’s motorcycle and was ejected off the rear after it exited the roadway.  Mrs. Green died Saturday April 30th around 5:25 p.m. 

 

Delaware State Police are still attempting to determine the reason why Walter Green, who was traveling westbound, drifted across the eastbound lanes of Seashore Highway and eventually off the roadway.  The fatal crash is still under investigation.

Resume Update:

Bridgeville-Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit Saturday April 30, 2011 investigated a motorcycle crash on Route 404 Seashore Highway a ½ mile W/O Cokesbury Road, 4 miles W/O Georgetown.  The time of the crash was approximately 10:25 a.m.

 

Walter R. Green-79 of Warrenton Virginia was traveling westbound on Seashore Highway driving a 2010 Honda GL1800 motorcycle.  Green’s wife Mary Green was a rear passenger and both were wearing helmets. 

 

Mr. Green’s motorcycle for an unknown reason drifted across the eastbound lane of travel and off the south edge of the roadway.  The motorcycle rode up an embankment ejecting Mary Green.  Mr. Green continued a short distance before striking a wooden post and rail.  Mr. Green was then thrown to the ground. 

 

Mr. Green was transported by ground to Nanticoke Hospital Seaford Delaware where he was pronounced deceased.  Mary Green was flown to Christiana Hospital and admitted.  Mary Green is listed in critical condition. 

 

Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is asking anyone with additional information concerning this fatal accident to contact State Police Troop 7 at 302-644-5020 ext 112.

DSP News Release:  Preliminary Crash and Road Closure Information Two Sussex County Locations

 

Location

  • Route 404 Seashore Highway W/O Cokesbury Church Bridgeville, De
  • Gravel Hill Road and Mount Joy Road Millsboro, De

 

DATE and TIME:  

  • Saturday April 30, 2011 approximate time 12:32 for Bridgeville crash
  • Saturday April 30, 2011 approximate time 12:37 for Millsboro crash

 

Resume:

Bridgeville/Millsboro-Delaware State Police are currently investigating to serious motor vehicle crashes in Sussex County Delaware. 

 

The first crash preliminarily involves at least one fatality, occurred on Route 404 Seashore Highway W/O Cokesbury Church Bridgeville Delaware.  Currently there is no information available regarding road closures at this location; however motorist should expect longer then normal delays. 

 

The second crash occurred approximately 5 minutes after the Bridgeville fatal near the intersection of Gravel Hill and Mount Joy Roads Millsboro Delaware.  This crash reportedly involves a bicyclist who was struck by a motor vehicle and considered serious in nature.

 

Gravel Hill and Mount Joy Roads will temporarily be closed until Delaware State Police Aviation transports the victim.  

 

These two crashes are in their preliminary investigative stages.  I will provide updated information surrounding these crashes when it is available for release.  Thank you for your patience. 

 

Information regarding the serious motor vehicle crash which occurred last night on Seashore Highway will also be forthcoming.
