TROOPER INJURED DURING ROADSIDE SCUFFLE


DSP News Release:  Trooper Injured During Roadside Scuffle

 Resume:

 Newark-Delaware State Police are searching for Benjamin Garcia-20 of Wilmington currently wanted for Felony level resisting arrest, Criminal Impersonation and several traffic offenses. 

 

Late Friday evening an 8 year veteran Trooper (male) on routine patrol observed Benjamin Garcia operating a motorcycle on East Chestnut Hill Road approaching Gender Road Newark Delaware without a motorcycle helmet in his possession. 

 

The Trooper activated his patrol vehicle’s emergency equipment and had Garcia pull to the shoulder of East Chestnut Hill Road near Gender Road.  After making contact with Garcia, a computer check of the name Garcia provided revealed he had given a false name to the Trooper. 

 

When the Trooper attempted to handcuff Garcia, a struggle ensued resulting in both following to the ground.  While on the ground Garcia continued to struggle with the Trooper before fleeing on foot across East Chestnut Hill Road. 

 

The 8 year Trooper was treated and released from Christiana Hospital for a hand injury sustained during the struggle. 

 

State Police are currently searching for Benjamin Garcia and have active arrest warrants consisting of Resisting Arrest, Criminal Impersonation, Driving While Suspended, Operating a Motorcycle without a Helmet and for Having No Motorcycle License.
