DSP News Release:  Wilmington Man Dies in One Vehicle Crash

Location: DE Rt. 52 (Kennett Pike) north of Brook Valley Road, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 1:55 a.m.

Operators/Vehicles:

Operator: 22 year old Wilmington, DE man (name will be released at a later time)

Vehicle: 2003 Infiniti G35

Injured: 23 year old Newark, DE female

Greenville- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal motor vehicle crash in which a Wilmington man was killed that occurred early this morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. as a 22 year old Wilmington, DE man was traveling on DE Rt. 52 in a southbound direction north of Brook Valley Road at a high rate of speed while operating a 2003 Infiniti G35. The operator of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and traveled onto the right hand shoulder. The vehicle then veered back to the left where it struck a low lying center median and a road sign. It then traveled back to the right and onto the shoulder where it struck a metal light pole. It then became airborne, overturned onto its roof, and struck a fence before landing on its roof and coming to rest in a creek bed.

The 22 year old operator, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported from the by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s officer where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

A 23 year old Newark, DE woman, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the car, was able to crawl from the vehicle. She was also transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.

This crash remains under investigation at this time. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
