DSP News Release: New Castle Man Arrested on Weapon/Drug Charges

Defendant: Julius P. Lawrence, 27, New Castle, DE
Charges:
-Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony -Possession with the Intent to Deliver Cocaine -Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited -Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited -Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana -Receiving a Stolen Firearm -Maintaining a Dwelling for Keeping Controlled Substances -Possession of Drug Paraphernalia -Possession of Non-Narcotic Schedule IV Controlled Substance (Clonazepam)
Resume: New Castle- Officers from the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force have arrested a 27 year old New Castle man after a search of his home revealed a stolen firearm and drugs early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred Thursday, March 24 at approximately 12:20 a.m. as members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force were patrolling the area of Rose Lane in Rosegate in New Castle. Task Force members received a tip that the residents of a home in the 100 block of Rose Lane were actively selling drugs out of the residence. Task Force members responded to the home and upon knocking on the door, made contact with the homeowner, later identified as Julius P. Lawrence, 27. They then entered the home and observed a digital scale and plastic sandwich bags which are used to weigh and package illegal drugs in plain view. Task Force members then obtained a search warrant for the residence and upon execution of the warrant; they located 20 grams of marijuana, 5.6 grams of crack cocaine, 8 Clonazepam pills, and a loaded Glock 27 handgun. It was later learned that the handgun had been reported stolen in a burglary that had been investigated by the New Castle County Police in 2009.
Julius P. Lawrence was arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility for lack of $40,000.00 secured bail.
