89 YEAR OLD VICTIM BILKED OUT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS

Resume: Rehoboth Beach-Delaware State Police Tuesday March 22nd charged Kevin M. Donovan of Bethany Beach with defrauding an 89 year old Rehoboth woman of over $186,000 dollars.
State Police detectives were initially contacted by Wilmington Trust representatives regarding suspicious activity with the victim’s bank account. State Police were advised by bank representatives that they were having trouble contacting the victim to discuss recent activity to her account. Wilmington Trust was familiar with the age of the victim and became concerned.
Bank officials and State Troopers on May 14, 2010 responded to the victim’s residence and were able to make contact with the victim. Upon speaking with the victim it became clear that she needed medical care. The victim was taken to Beebe Medical Hospital for treatment. Additional information about the current condition of the victim is not available.
State Police detectives began working with Wilmington Trust officials and were made aware of multiple checks written out to Kevin M. Donovan. The first check was written in the amount of $465.00 for landscaping on September 23, 2009 and the last check written in the amount of $25,000 for yard work supplies. The total amount of checks written to Donovan over an 8 month period of time totaled $186,265 for various types of household repairs.
State Police detectives through their investigation were unable to locate yard tools and supplies purchased by Donovan; or any substantial home improvements to the victim’s residence. Donovan was charged Tuesday March 22nd by Delaware State Police detectives for Exploit Resources Greater Than $50,000 of an Infirmed Adult, Theft Where the Property Value is Greater the $50,000 but Less Than $100,000, 12 counts of Theft Over $1,500.00 and 12 counts of Theft Under $1,500.00. Donovan following arraignment was released on $75,000 unsecured bond.
