Resume: Bridgeville-Bridgeville Police and Delaware State Police Departments are currently investigating a Home Invasion Robbery which occurred Monday evening March 21, 2011.
The Sussex County 911 center received an emergency call around 8:29 p.m. regarding a man who had been shot. Bridgeville Police and emergency medical crews initially responded to the unit block of Laverty Lane where the victim was taken to a residence by Good Samaritans.
Laverty Lane Apartments is the jurisdiction of the Bridgeville Police Department. Bridgeville and State Troopers upon arrival to Laverty Lane secured the area and began to investigate the events which led to the shooting.
Investigators learned that a 25 year old victim had been shot at least once in the upper torso. The victim was taken from the scene and flown to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
At the request of Bridgeville Police Department, Delaware State Police detectives were notified to jointly investigate the Bridgeville shooting. State Police detectives as well as the Evidence Unit were called to the scene to assist.
The investigation into Monday evenings shooting revealed the victim was at his residence on the unit block of Moyer Lane in the Laverty Lane Apartment Complex just before 8:30 p.m. The victim heard a noise at the front of his residence and when he went to investigate was confronted by 2-5 suspects. At least one of the suspects displayed a firearm and demanded money from the victim. (No further description currently available about the suspects.)
During the home invasion a suspect discharged a firearm striking the victim in his upper torso. The suspects then fled the victim’s residence after obtaining an undisclosed amount of money.
It is believed that the suspects entered through an unsecured front door. The victim after being shot was able to make it to the street outside his residence and yell for help. Good Samaritans assisted the victim and then dialed 911.
The Bridgeville Police Department after securing the scene was able to obtain investigative information concerning suspects which greatly assisted in the identification of at least one suspect.
Bridgeville and State Police currently are preparing arrest warrants for the one suspect who was taken into custody around 11:15 p.m. Monday night. A warrant for Attempted Murder First Degree and 6 other related crimes are being sought by police.
Investigators from both departments are following up on additional investigative leads with hopes of identifying others involved in the Bridgeville home invasion. Due to the status of this ongoing investigation not all investigative information can currently be released to the public. The name of the suspect currently in custody and who has not been formally charged is being withheld so as to not jeopardize the investigation.
