DSP News Release:  Camden Teen Critical Following Overnight Shooting

Magnolia-Saturday morning March 19^th Delaware State Police responded to the Meadowbrook Acres Development Magnolia Delaware for a person who had been shot.  The Kent County 911 center took an emergency call reporting the incident around 12:15 a.m.

When State Police and emergency medical crews arrived to the unit block of N. Draper Circle, they discovered a 15 year old male had been shot multiple times.  The Camden teen was transported to Kent General Hospital for gun shot wounds to his lung, neck, head and arm.  The victim is currently listed in critical condition. 

State Police detectives were advised by witnesses that the incident was between the victim and three black males.  State Police are currently not able to provide motive behind the altercation.  State Police detectives are attempting to identify the alleged suspects involved in the shooting as well as locate additional witnesses to assist in piecing together the Saturday night incident. 

So far State Police have determined that Saturday morning the victim was approached by three suspects.  An altercation between the victim and suspects ensued.  Next, one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and pulled the trigger.  The suspect attempted to fire the handgun however it initially miss-fired an undetermined number of times.  The victim turned to flee but the suspect was able to discharge a round into his back. 

The 15 year old victim reportedly took cover behind a nearby tree.  The three suspects chased after the victim, locating him huddled down on the ground, at which time one of the suspects discharged three additional rounds, striking the victim in the head, neck and arm.      

The suspects fled the area of Millchop and Stevenson Drive to an unknown destination.  The victim was able to make it to N. Draper Circle to an acquaintances residence, who then dialed 911. 

State Police detectives are currently conducting follow up interviews concerning last nights shooting.  Additional information concerning the shooting will be disseminated as soon as it becomes available.
