Resume:

Newark-Delaware State Police Friday afternoon arrested Marcus Smith-24 of Spotsylvania Virginia for trafficking marijuana, following a traffic stop on I-95 southbound and Route 7 near Newark Delaware. 

 

Smith was stopped for driving his 1999 Acura RL above the posted speed limit of 55 MPH.  When the Trooper approached Smith’s vehicle he advised him of the reason for the stop. 

 

The Trooper obtained consent to search Smith’s vehicle and upon opening the Acura’s trunk detected a strong odor of raw marijuana.  A duffle bag was located inside the trunk which appeared to be where the odor of marijuana was emitting from.  Further inspection of the duffle bag revealed clothing covering three large clear plastic packages containing marijuana.  The total combined weight of the marijuana is approximately 9.36 lbs.  

 

Smith was charged for Trafficking Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Vehicle for Keeping Controlled Substances and Speeding. 

 

Smith is currently being held in Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $22,500 secured bond.
