Laurel-Delaware State Police have identified the operator of the Plymouth Neon as 51 year old Edgewater Maryland resident Melody Young.  Young died at the scene along with her boyfriend a passenger in the Plymouth; Arlan Carpenter-56 of Laurel Delaware from injuries sustained in the crash.

UPDATE SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH LAUREL DELAWARE

Resume Update:

Laurel-This morning Delaware Start Police responded to a motor vehicle crash around 7:39 a.m.  The crash involving a Mack tractor trailer and Plymouth Neon passenger car occurred at the intersection of Laurel Road (SR 24) and Old Stage Road Laurel Delaware. 

The crash happened as a tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on SR 24 Laurel Road.  The Plymouth Neon initially stopped at a stop sign northbound on Old Stage Road intersecting with SR 24; however the Neon then pulled into the path of the tractor trailer.  Traffic on SR 24 had the right of way. 

The tractor trailer crashed into the driver’s side of the Plymouth passenger car killing the driver and passenger.  Both the 51 year old female operator and 56 year old male passenger died at the scene.

Delaware State Police closed the roadway for several hours while the crash was being investigated.  Preliminary information does NOT suggest alcohol to have been a factor in the crash for either driver. 

The operator of the tractor trailer is John G. Osborne-47 of Laurel Delaware was not injured in the crash.

DSP News Release:  Preliminary Serious Motor Vehicle Crash Involving a Tractor Trailer

Laurel-Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Laurel Road and Old Stage Road Laurel Delaware. 

The crash is reported to involve a passenger car and tractor trailer.  The crash was reported to police at 7:39 a.m. this morning.  The number of injuries associated with this crash is currently unknown. 

Traffic Advisory:  Motorist should expect delays and detours in the area of the crash site as well as emergency crews responding to and leaving the scene.
