Resume: New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a three car personal injury crash that occurred this afternoon in New Castle.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 this afternoon as Jose Garcia of New Castle was operating a 1999 Honda Accord and was traveling in the right hand southbound lane of US Rt. 13 in the area of Rt. 141. Garcia attempted to make a lane change into the left hand lane of southbound Rt. 13 and sideswiped a 2000 Honda van that was being operated by Litsiri Thompson, 32, of Wallops Island, VA. Thompson then lost control of her vehicle and crossed the center median of the highway. Her vehicle then entered the northbound lanes of Rt. 13 where it was broadsided by a 2002 Suzuki pick up truck that was being operated by Norma Figueroa, 55, of New Castle, DE.
Norma Figueroa was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. A small child in Figueroa’s vehicle was trapped for approximately 15 minutes in a child safety seat and had to be freed by emergency workers. The child was not injured, however. There were no other injuries.
Jose Garcia was cited for driving on a suspended license and also for making an unsafe lane change. Northbound US Rt. 13 was partially closed for approximately 45 minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.
