Newark- Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a 24 year old Bear, DE man in connection with two armed robberies that occurred within minutes of each other yesterday evening.

The first robbery occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. on March 5, 2011 at the Express Food Mart located in the 700 block of Pulaski Highway in Bear. A male suspect entered the store and approached the male clerk. The suspect then displayed a silver handgun and demanded money from the store’s cash register. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled from the store in an unknown direction.

Approximately 10 minutes later, the same male suspect entered the Smoker’s Corner store located in the 1200 block of New Churchman’s Road in Newark. The suspect approached the 48 year male employee and asked for a carton of cigarettes. The suspect then again displayed a silver handgun and demanded cash from the register. The clerk complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect. The suspect then fled with the money and cigarettes and was observed entering into the rear seat of a white vehicle which then left the parking lot.

After further investigation, detectives were able to determine that the vehicle that the suspect hand entered was a rented limousine and that it had dropped the suspect off at the Red Roof Inn located on Churchman’s Road, Newark. Troopers then responded to the motel where they were able to locate the suspect, later identified as Frank L. Long, Jr., and took him into custody without incident. Detectives were able to locate evidence linking Long to the robberies at the motel and in a wooded area adjacent to the motel.

Frank L. Long, Jr. was arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree. He was arraigned at JP Court 20 and then committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute for lack of $4000.00 cash bail. There were no injuries in either robbery.
