Resume: Glasgow- The Delaware State Police investigated a minor personal injury accident in which a trooper was slightly injured that occurred yesterday evening in Glasgow.
The crash happened at approximately 7:50 p.m. after a state trooper assigned to Troop 2 in Newark, DE, had responded to the intersection of DE Rt. 896 and US Rt. 40 for the report of a property damage accident that had occurred in the intersection. After it was determined that one of the vehicles that was involved in the accident could not be moved, the trooper returned to his fully marked patrol vehicle that had its emergency lights activated. The trooper then began to back his vehicle in order to block traffic that was traveling on eastbound US Rt. 40. As the trooper did this, the left rear of his vehicle was struck by the left front of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that was being operated by Nanthakumar Viswanathan and which was traveling on DE Rt. 896 southbound.
The state trooper was transported from the scene by EMS and taken to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Nanthakumar Viswanathan was not injured. He was cited by state police with inattentive driving and not having proof of motor vehicle insurance in his possession. The intersection of US Rt. 40 and DE Rt. 896 was partially closed for several hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
