DSP News Release:  Claymont Man Killed in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

 

Location: Southbound Philadelphia Pike at Cauffiel Parkway, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 8:10 p.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator #1: 17 year old Wilmington, DE female

Vehicle #1: 2009 Dodge Charger

 

Operator #2: George Troutman, 49, Claymont, DE

Vehicle #2: Unknown year Harley Davidson motorcycle

 

Resume:   

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred yesterday evening on Philadelphia Pike.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. as a 17 year old Wilmington female was operating a 2009 Dodge Charger and was traveling on Philadelphia Pike approaching Cauffiel Parkway.  The front of the Charger was then struck by a Harley Davidson motorcycle that had entered its lane from northbound Philadelphia Pike and which was being operated by George Troutman of Claymont, DE. The Harley Davidson became wedged into the front of the Charger and Troutman was ejected from it landing in the roadway. Troutman, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The 17 year old female was transported from the scene to the Wilmington Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

 

Philadelphia Pike was closed in both directions for several hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
