DSP News Release:  Troopers on Scene of Tractor Trailer Crash

Location: Northbound US Rt. 13 (N. DuPont Highway) at DE Rt. 141 (Basin Road), New Castle, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, March 02, 2011 at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Resume:   

New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a crash that involves a tractor trailer striking the overpass at northbound US Rt. 13 and DE Rt. 141 in New Castle. Initial indication is that the driver of a tractor and flatbed trailer attempted to drive under the overpass; however its load of a very large empty cargo tank struck the overpass causing it to fall off of the trailer. Three lanes of US Rt. 13 northbound are closed at this time, however; traffic is able to still flow around the scene in the remaining northbound lane. It is unknown how long it will take to clear the crash and commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel.

The investigation into the crash is on-going. More information will be released at a later time.
