DSP News Release:  Detectives Probe Wilmington Area Bank Robbery

Location: Citizens Bank inside of the Acme, 1308 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 1:50 p.m.

Suspect: White male, 20-25 years of age, 5’07”-5’08” tall with a thin to medium build. He was last seen wearing a grey or brown hooded sweatshirt, white t-shirt, tan work boots, and a red, white, and blue baseball cap.

Victim:  24 year old female bank employee

Prices Corner- Delaware State Police robbery detectives are currently investigating the robbery of a Wilmington area bank branch that occurred this afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. today as a male suspect entered the Acme Store located in the 1300 block of Centerville Road, Wilmington. The suspect then approached a bank teller working at the Citizens Bank Branch located inside of the grocery store and produced a note demanding money. The note implied that the suspect was armed with a gun, however, none was displayed. The 24 year old victim complied with the suspect’s demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then fled from the bank. As the suspect fled from the building, a dye pack, which was included in the money, exploded, causing the suspect to drop cash on the ground. The suspect then continued fleeing in an unknown direction. The money was recovered by responding troopers. There were no injuries.
