Bear-The Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a car and a bicyclist that occurred this morning in Bear.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. this morning as Gerard Smit-87 of Newark, DE was riding his bicycle southbound on Bear Christiana Road in a marked bicycle lane, approaching the Freedom Road intersection.

A 2007 Honda Accord being operated by Donna M. Jones-32, of Newark, DE was traveling eastbound on Freedom Road, making a right turn onto southbound Bear Christiana Road when the collision occurred.  The bicycle struck the rear of the Honda Accord with Smit being thrown from the bicycle.

Smit was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was being treated for non life threatening injuries.  Smit was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  Jones was not injured in the collision.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
