Bear-The Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that occurred early this evening involving a car and bicyclist that has left a 14 year old male in critical condition.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. as Jason Weakland-14 of Bear, DE was riding his bicycle southbound on the right shoulder of Sunset Lake Road approaching Pulaski Highway.  For an unknown reason Weakland turned left and entered the southbound lanes of Sunset Lake Road into the path of a 2001 Nissan Altima being operated by Cecelia A. Ross-59 of West Grove, PA.  Weakland was thrown from the bicycle after the impact.

Weakland was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was admitted in Critical Condition.  Weakland was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  Ross was not injured in the collision.

The crash is still under investigation.
