NEWARK WOMAN INJURED IN CRASH


DSP News Release:  Newark Woman Injured in Crash

 

Location: I-95 northbound north of Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., Wilmington

 

Date of Occurrence:  Friday, June 17, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator #1: Esteban R. Sanchez, 24, New Castle, DE

Vehicle #1: 2005 Chevrolet Express

 

Operator #2: Grace D. Ford, 47, Newark, DE

Vehicle #2: 2006 BMW Mini Cooper

 

Resume:   

Wilmington- A 47 year old Newark woman was injured following a two vehicle crash that occurred this morning in Wilmington.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning as Grace D. Ford, 47, was operating a BMW Mini Cooper and was traveling on I-95 northbound in the right hand lane. Ford’s vehicle then began to enter the left hand lane where it struck the passenger side of a Chevrolet Express that was being operated by Esteban Sanchez, 24. After striking the Chevrolet, Grace Ford swerved her vehicle to the right and then overcorrected back to the left where the vehicle left the roadway and struck the center median of the highway. Ford’s vehicle then bounced off of the median and overturned several times before landing on its driver’s side. Grace Ford, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was able to partially free herself from the vehicle until she was completely removed by EMS. She was then transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated for her non life-threatening injuries. Esteban Sanchez was not injured.

 

Grace Ford was cited by troopers for operating a vehicle while utilizing a hand held electronic device. Esteban Sanchez was also cited for driving without a valid license.
