MIDDLETOWN MAN INJURED IN I-95 CRASH


DSP News Release:  Middletown Man Injured in I-95 Crash

 

Location: Northbound I-95 at northbound I-495, Newport, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Friday, June 17, 2011 at 6:30 a.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator #1: David V. Barowsky, 55, Frackville, PA

Vehicle #1: 2009 International Tractor and trailer

 

Operator #2: Thomas C. Fuerst, 19, Middletown, DE

Vehicle #2: 2005 Mazda Tribute

 

Resume:   

Newport- A 19 year old Middletown man was injured this morning in a two vehicle crash that occurred this morning north of Newport.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning as Thomas C. Fuerst, 19, was operating a 2005 Mazda Tribute and was traveling northbound on I-95 in the left center lane just north of DE Rt. 141. As Fuerst attempted a lane change he lost control of his car and entered the right center lane. Fuerst’s vehicle then struck the trailer portion of a 2009 International tractor and trailer that was being operated by David V. Barowsky, 55. The Mazda then became lodged under the trailer.

 

Thomas Fuerst was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. Troopers cited Fuerst with careless driving. David Barowsky was not injured.

 

Three lanes of I-95 northbound were closed as the crash was investigated and cleared. They have since been re-opened.
