DSP News Release:  Multiple Injuries in Roll Over Accident

Location: I-95 southbound south of DE Rt. 141 (Churchman’s Marsh), Newark, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 6:30 a.m.

Operator/Vehicle:

Operator: Elisaul C. Miranda, 20, Philadelphia, PA

Vehicle: 1997 Ford Club Wagon Van

Charges:

-No Valid Driver’s License

-No Proof of Insurance

-Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Injured:  At this point there are a total of 17 persons believed to have been injured. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.

Resume: 

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a one vehicle roll over accident in which multiple persons were injured that occurred this morning south of Newport.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning as Elisaul C. Miranda, 20, was operating a 1997 Ford Club Wagon and was traveling southbound on I-95 approximately 1.7 miles south of Newport. For an unknown reason, the Club Wagon began to overturn several times on the roadway and came to rest on the left hand shoulder of the roadway.

At this point it is believed that 17 people in the van, which was enroute to a job site in Chesapeake City, MD, were injured in the crash and were transported to the Christiana Hospital. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening at this time. The exact number of injured has not been confirmed at this point due to several of the individuals leaving the hospital prior to being treated. 

Elisaul C. Miranda was cited by troopers with the above list of charges. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.  No further details are available.

DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Injury Accident

Location: I-95 southbound south of DE Rt. 141 (Churchman’s Marsh), Newark, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 6:30 a.m.

Operator/Vehicle:  Unknown at this time.

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently at the scene of a single vehicle crash on I-95 southbound south of DE Rt. 141.

Initial information is that the crash involved a single vehicle, described as a large passenger van, which rolled over. There were over a dozen persons injured in the crash.

The left lane and left shoulder of southbound I-95 is currently closed and all southbound lanes may be closed periodically as the crash is investigated and cleared. Commuters should expect delays in the area and should also consider alternate routes.

This crash is still under investigation at this time. More information will be released after the investigation is complete.
