8 year old Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Traffic Crash

 

Resume Update Wednesday June 8, 2011:

Seaford-Wednesday June 8th 2011, just before 4 pm Carlos Hernandez-8 of Seaford Delaware succumbed to injuries sustained in yesterday’s traffic crash.  The crash occurred Tuesday June 7th shortly after 8 pm on Seaford road south of Seaford Delaware. 

 

Carlos Hernandez was flown to Christiana Hospital with severe head trauma after colliding with a 2001 Dodge van traveling northbound on Seaford Road S/O Roosevelt Street S/O Seaford Delaware.  

 

Hernandez reportedly was walking along the northbound shoulder of Seaford road when for an unknown reason he darted left, directly into the path of the Dodge van. 

 

State Police do not suspect impairment or speed as contributing factors in the collision.  Gary L. Bell-27 of Laurel Delaware was operating the 2001 Dodge van at the time of the crash.

Resume:

Seaford-Delaware State Police Tuesday evening investigated a pedestrian traffic crash on Seaford Road, just S/O Roosevelt Street S/O Seaford Delaware.  State Police and Emergency medical crews responded to the crash which occurred around 8:22 pm. 

 

The State Police’s investigation into the Tuesday evening crash revealed that a 2001 Dodge Van, driven by Gary L. Bell-27 of Laurel was traveling northbound on Seaford Road prior to the collision. 

 

The pedestrian Carlos Hernandez-8 of Seaford was running northbound along the eastbound shoulder of Seaford Road when he suddenly darted across the northbound lane of Seaford road.  Hernandez was struck by the van and thrown across the southbound lane of Seaford Road.  (Hernandez was not struck by any other vehicles.)

 

Delaware State Police’s helicopter transported Hernandez to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition, suffering from head trauma. 

 

Delaware State Police are continuing their investigation.
