WILMINGTON MAN ARRESTED AFTER CRASHING INTO TROOPER'S VEHICLE

DSP News Release: Wilmington Man Arrested after Crashing into Trooper’s Vehicle
Location: Shipley Road north of Windley Road, Wilmington, DE
Date of Occurrence: Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2:00 a.m.
Operators/Vehicles:
Operator 1: 34 year old Delaware State Trooper assigned to Troop 1, Penny Hill, Wilmington, DE (Trooper was not in vehicle at time of crash). Vehicle 1: 2007 Ford Crown Victoria
Operator 2: Wayne A. Brown, 30, Wilmington, DE Vehicle 2: 2000 Hyundai Elantra
Resume: Wilmington- A 30 year old Wilmington, DE man was arrested by Delaware State Police following a two car crash early this morning in north Wilmington.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. this morning as Wayne A. Brown was operating a 2000 Hyundai Elantra and was driving in an erratic manner on southbound Shipley Road approximately .1 miles north of Windley Road. Brown’s vehicle then struck the front of a fully marked Ford Crown Victoria that was parked in the southbound lanes of Shipley Road as a trooper was investigating an earlier crash that had occurred. The Crown Victoria was unoccupied at the time.
After the crash, the trooper responded to Brown’s vehicle and observed that he was attempting to reverse his vehicle in order to flee the scene. The trooper was able to remove Brown from the vehicle and secure him until EMS responded to the scene.
Wayne Brown was then transported from the scene to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Brown was cited by troopers with one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a vehicle with an expired registration, no proof of motor vehicle insurance, and failure to remain in a lane of travel.
There were no other injuries.
