DSP News Release:  One Injured in Three Vehicle Crash

Location: I-495 southbound at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Thursday, June 2, 2011 at approximately 9:09 a.m.

Operators/Vehicles:

Operator 1: Christine H. Cavalier, 62, Aston, PA

Vehicle 1: 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Operator 2: Reginald Hawkins, 31, Chester, PA

Vehicle 2: 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Operator 3: John C. Bichler, 69, Scranton, PA

Vehicle 3: Unknown year make motor home

Wilmington- A 62 year old Pennsylvania woman was injured after a three vehicle crash this morning on I-495 in Wilmington.

The incident occurred as Christine Cavalier, 62, was operating a 2004 Toyota Tacoma and was traveling southbound on I-495 in the right hand lane just south of Edgemoor Road. For an unknown reason Cavalier’s vehicle began to drift off of the west edge of the roadway. Cavalier overcorrected her vehicle to the left causing it to travel across all of the southbound lanes of I-495 where it then struck a guardrail. The Toyota was then struck by a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue which was being operated by Reginald Hawkins, 31. Hawkins’ vehicle then spun in the roadway and struck a motor home that was being operated by John Bichler, 69, and which was traveling southbound on I-495 in the center lane.

Christine Cavalier was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she was being treated for her injuries. She was citied by troopers for failure to maintain a lane of travel. There were no other injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-495 were closed for approximately 1 hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.

All lanes of I-495 have been re-opened.

This crash remains under investigation.

Location: I-495 southbound at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Thursday, June 2, 2011 at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Operators/Vehicles:  Unknown at this time

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a personal injury accident on southbound I-495 at Edgemoor Road. All southbound lanes of I-495 are closed at this time and commuters are urged to find alternate means of travel.

There are no further details on the crash at this time as the crash is still under investigation.

More details will be released upon completion of the investigation.
