MOTORCYCLIST INJURED IN ACCIDENT


DSP News Release:  Motorcyclist Injured in Accident

 

Location: Southbound DE Rt. 72 (South Chapel Street) at Peoples Drive, Newark, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 01, 2011 at 1:44 p.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator 1: Carl W. Cooper, 54, Elkton, MD

Vehicle 1: 2005 Ford Econoline Van

 

Operator 2: Jeffrey D. Scott, 40, Bear, DE

Vehicle 2: 2000 Harley Davidson Motorcycle

 

Resume:   

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash which injured a Bear man this afternoon.

 

The crash occurred as Jeffrey Scott, 40, was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling southbound on DE Rt. 72. According to witnesses, Scott lost control of his motorcycle, ejecting him from it. Jeffrey Scott then rolled on the ground and then under a 2005 Ford Econoline van that was stopped on southbound Rt. 72 at Peoples Drive, and which was being operated by Carl W. Cooper, 54.

 

Jeffrey Scott was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted for serious non-life threatening injuries. He was cited by troopers with one count each of inattentive driving, operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement, and no proof of vehicle insurance.

 

Carl Cooper was not injured.

 

DE Rt. 72 has been re-opened.

DSP News Release:  Troopers on Scene of Motorcycle Accident

 

Location: Old Baltimore Pike and DE Rt. 72, Newark, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 01, 2011 at approximately 1:40 p.m.

 

Resume:   

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a personal injury accident involving a motorcycle and a van that occurred on northbound DE Rt. 72 at Old Baltimore Pike in Newark.

 

DE Rt. 72 northbound is currently closed between Old Baltimore Pike and Dawson Drive. Commuters should find alternate means of travel around the area.

 

This crash is still under investigation. More information will be released upon completion of the investigation.
