MAGNOLIA MAN CHARGED AFTER CAUSING MULTIPLE COLLISIONS

DSP News Release: Magnolia Man Charged After Causing Multiple Collisions

Resume: Magnolia/Camden-Friday July 29, 2011 Delaware State Police and the Camden Police Department investigated numerous traffic crashes involving Joseph L. Barclay-22 of Magnolia Delaware.
3:52 p.m. 07/29/11-Tara A. Schad-37 of Smyrna Delaware was at the intersection of S. Main Street and E. Walnut Street Magnolia Delaware. Schad was driving a 2009 Ford Flex when she was struck in the rear bumper by Joseph L. Barclay-22 of Magnolia Delaware. Barclay was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry.
After a brief verbal encounter between Barclay and Schad he entered his Toyota and fled the crash scene.
4:03 and 4:14 p.m. 07/29/11, Barclay was involved in two separate traffic crashes investigated by the Camden Police Department on US 13 and Voshells Mill Road and also US 13 and SR 10. (Please contact Camden Police regarding specifics)
4:50 p.m. 07/29/11, Barclay was observed by a State of Delaware Fire Marshal traveling southbound on US 113a Clapham Road S/O the town of Magnolia. Barclay continued south on US 113a and entered the Barkers Landing Development followed by the Fire Marshal.
The State of Delaware Fire Marshal activated his emergency lights and attempted to perform a traffic stop on Barclay. Barclay disregarded the attempts to stop him and began driving aggressively through the Barkers’ Landing Development.
State Troopers responding to the area attempted to set up a perimeter at the entrance to the development however Barclay swerved around the patrol vehicles and continued to flee. Barclay was pursued onto Bowers’ Beach road where he became involved in two separate crashes involving fully marked State Police patrol vehicles. These crashes occurred on Bowers Beach road in the area of Whitwells’ Delight Road.
Barclay continuing to avoid apprehension eventually returned to US 113 Bay road and again crashed into a State Police patrol vehicle on US 113 and Mulberrie Point Road, which disabled Barclay’s vehicle. After Barclay’s vehicle became disabled he attempted to flee on foot however was taken into custody. Barclay was processed at Delaware State Police Troop 3 Woodside S/O Camden and charged with Driving under the Influence of Drugs, Reckless Endangering, Resisting Arrest and 8 other traffic related offenses. Following arraignment Barclay was remanded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $4,900.00 secured bond.
