DSP News Release: Troopers Probe Attempted Carjacking

Location: Gray Stone Plaza, 637 W. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 7:10 p.m.

Suspects:

Suspect #1: Black male, 6’00” tall, with a large build. He was last seen wearing black clothing.

Suspect #2: White male, 5’05”-5’06” tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a blue and white striped Polo shirt and dark blue jeans.

Victim: 39 year old Wilmington, DE female

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred in the parking lot of a Newport area shopping center last night.

The incident occurred as a 39 year old female victim was walking to her car which was parked in the lot of the Gray Stone Plaza located in the 600 block of W. Newport Pike, Wilmington. As the victim reached her car, she was approached from behind by a black male suspect who proceeded to punch her in the back of the head. The victim was then ordered by the suspect to turn over the keys to her car to him, which she did.  The black male suspect, as well as a white male suspect, then entered the victim’s car; however, they were unable to flee due to the fact that they could not operate a vehicle with a manual transmission. Both suspects then exited the car and fled on foot. They were last seen running towards Newport. The victim was not injured.
