NEW CASTLE MAN ARRESTED AFTER ROBBING TRUCK DRIVER

DSP News Release: New castle Man Arrested after Robbing Truck Driver
Location: Wawa Convenience Store, 4000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE
Date of Occurrence: Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 12:48 a.m.

Charges:
-Robbery 2nd Degree -Possession of Drug Paraphernalia -Resisting Arrest -Loitering
Victim: 36 year old Wilmington, DE man
Resume: New Castle- The Delaware State Police have arrested a 47 year old New Castle man after he robbed a truck driver in the parking lot of an area convenience store early this morning.
The incident began as a 36 year old Wilmington, DE man was walking toward his truck parked in the rear lot of the Wawa Store located in the 4000 block of N. DuPont Highway, New Castle. The victim was approached by a male suspect who punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then jumped on the victim and was able to remove a wallet from his rear pocket. The suspect then fled on foot toward Memorial Drive.
The victim then reported the incident to two Delaware State Troopers who were working a special duty assignment inside of the Wawa. One of the Troopers immediately began chasing the suspect but lost him in the nearby Overview Gardens development. As more Troopers arrived in the area to begin searching for the suspect, he was spotted hiding in a side yard of a home located in the area of Chesterfield Drive and Parma Avenue. After a brief struggle Curtis Brown was taken into custody. A subsequent search of Brown revealed a glass pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine in his pants pocket. The victim’s wallet was not located however.
Curtis Brown was arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and then committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility for lack of $6000.00 secured bail. The victim suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
