THREE INJURED IN FIVE VEHICLE CRASH

DSP News Release: Three Injured in Five Vehicle Crash
Location: Southbound I-95 approximately 1 mile south of DE Rt. 141, Newport, DE

Resume: Newport- The Delaware State Police are investigating a five vehicle crash in which three people were injured that occurred early this afternoon on I-95.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. as Kathleen M. Ollek was operating a 2000 Ford Ranger and was traveling in the right hand lane of southbound on I-95 just south of DE Rt. 141, in Newport. Ollek attempted to make a sudden left hand lane change and struck the rear of a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was being operated by Michael L. Residence, 62, and which was traveling in the right hand lane. Kathleen Olleck’s vehicle continued traveling in a southeast direction where it entered into the path of a 2004 Mitsubishi truck that was traveling in the center lane of southbound I-95 and which was being operated by Hipolito L. Calderon. The truck then rolled onto its side while traveling in a southeast direction and was then struck by a 1995 Dodge Ram which was being operated by Lucinda Aparicio, 44. Both the Mitsubishi truck and the Dodge Ram continued traveling in a southeast direction where they came to rest after striking a cement barrier. The Dodge Ram was then struck by a 2006 Honda Odyssey that was being operated by Mary J. Sepulveda, 42.
Kathleen Ollek, Hipolito Calderon, Lucinda Aparicio, as well as a 39 year old male passenger in Aparicio’s vehicle, were all removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where they were all treated for their injuries.
Kathleen Ollek was cited by Troopers for making an unsafe lane change. The two left hand lanes of I-95 southbound were closed for approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.
