Resume:

Central Kent County-Delaware State Police Friday July 15, 2011 arrested two Dover men for stealing items from vehicles throughout central Kent County Delaware.

Christofer W. Terrell-20 and Kasyme Weeks-19 both of Dover were identified through surveillance photos obtained when they used a credit card they had recently stolen from a vehicle and purchased items.

During the thefts Terrell and Weeks entered mostly vehicles which were left unlocked by the victims and caused damage to only 3 of the vehicles.  Two of the vehicles which sustained damaged had convertible tops.

Terrell and Weeks targeted vehicles in Dover, Camden, Felton, Frederica and Magnolia neighborhoods.  Terrell and Weeks removed cash, I-pods, portable GPS units, cellular telephones, credit and debit cards, various forms of identification or anything of value left in plain view.

Prior to the arrest of Terrell and Weeks Delaware State Police and the Dover Police Department searched the residence of Terrell and located numerous items taken during their crime spree.

Background information on these types of crimes:

  • Suspects involved in these types of crimes usually will steal from unlocked vehicles parked in subdivisions as well as less populated areas.
  • The suspects target subdivisions because of the high volume of vehicles parked in these neighborhoods.
  • This type of criminal activity is popular among individuals in their late teens-early 20’s and typically is referred to as “Car-Creeping”.
  • The suspects simply walk up to parked cars and pull on the door handles until they find a vehicle which has been left unlocked.  Suspects will force entry into vehicles, however most times only when high value items are detected.

State Police detectives charged the duo with 74 charges consisting of Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Criminal Trespass and Unlawful use of a Credit Card.  Following arraignment Terrell and Weeks were both remanded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of bond.
