DSP News Release: Troopers Probe Attempted Robbery of Gas Station

Location: Getty Service Station, 1400 S. DuPont Highway, Bear, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 5:20 p.m.

Suspect:  Black female, 35-40 years of age, 5’06”-5’08” tall, 120-130 lbs. She was last seen wearing a black Muslim burka covering her face.

Victim:  61 year old female employee

Bear- The Delaware State Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a Bear area gas station that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday as a female suspect entered the Getty gas station located in the 1400 block of S. DuPont Highway in Bear. The suspect approached the male clerk who was behind the sales counter and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect did not display a weapon. The clerk refused to comply with the suspect’s demands and activated the store’s panic alarm. The suspect then fled from the store and was last seen running in a southbound direction. The clerk was not injured.
