DSP News Release:  Magnolia Man Charged in Assault of Girlfriend

Woodland Beach-State Police Monday July 11^th charged Charles T. Forbes-61 of Magnolia Delaware for actions which sent his girlfriend to the hospital in critical condition. 

Delaware State Police and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control were dispatched to Woodland Beach for an unconscious female. 

A State Police investigation revealed that Charles T. Forbes and his 31 year old girlfriend were swimming off the shoreline of Woodland Beach just after 3 pm.  Witnesses advised investigators that they initially observed the victim faced down in the water and not moving. 

When several witnesses attempted to assist Forbes with administering first aid to the victim, Forbes became disorderly toward them and made derogatory comments.  Shortly thereafter a DENRC officer arrived on scene and was able to take Forbes into custody following a brief struggle. 

The victim was transported to Kent General Hospital by emergency medical services and admitted in critical condition still unconscious and unresponsive. 

Additional information obtained by investigators revealed Forbes, while in the water with the victim dunked and pulled her underwater until she lost unconsciousness. 

Monday Forbes was charged with Assault First Degree, Reckless Endangering First Degree and Resisting Arrest.  Following arraignment Forbes was remanded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $24,000 secured bond and a Violation of Probation order.
