CHESTER WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER SCUFFLE WITH TROOPERS
DSP News Release: Chester Woman Arrested after Scuffle with Troopers Location: Burlington Coat Factory, 333 Naamans Road, Claymont, DE Date of Occurrence: Tuesday, January, 25, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Victim: -31 year old male (employee of Burlington Coat Factory) Defendant: Ebonie L. Riley, 30, Chester, PA Charges: -Robbery 2nd Degree Resume: The incident began as Ebonie L. Riley, 30, of Chester, PA was confronted by a store employee of the Burlington Coat Factory, located on Naamans Road in Claymont, after she was observed shoplifting clothing at approximately 11:30 a.m. yesterday. As the 31 year old employee attempted to detain Riley, she punched him in the mouth. The employee, who was not injured, subdued Riley until troopers arrived and took her into custody. Upon being transported to Delaware State Police Troop 1, located on Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, Riley became combative and scuffled with Troopers as they attempted to restrain her. She then struck one on the troopers in the neck with her hands. As the struggle continued a 40 year old trooper sustained injuries. Troopers were eventually able to secure Riley in the detention room after one of the assisting troopers utilized his divisionally issued Taser on her and brought her under control. The injured trooper was treated for his injury and released. There were no other injuries. Ebonie Riley was charged with the above list of crimes. She was arraigned at JP Court 2 and then committed to the Women’s Correctional Facility for lack of $10,150.00 secured bail.
