DSP News Release: Laurel Man Charged in Altercation Involving a Gun

Laurel-Delaware State Police early Friday morning January 21, 2011 responded to a gun complaint in the 31000 block of Mt. Pleasant Road Laurel Delaware. 

When Troopers arrived they discovered the alleged suspect Angel Sanchez-25 of Laurel was still on scene along with the victim.  Delaware State Police learned the altercation involved a 23 year old victim and Sanchez.  The victim and Sanchez were reportedly fighting for an unknown reason.  Sanchez however during the fight retrieved a handgun and fired a single shot into the air penetrating the ceiling.  The residence was occupied by two other individuals who were asleep at the time of the altercation and were not harmed.

State Police upon searching the residence located a Beretta 7.65 caliber handgun allegedly used in the crime.  Delaware State Police took Sanchez into custody and charged him with Reckless Endangering and other weapons related crimes. 

Sanchez was later incarcerated into Sussex Correctional Institute on $9,000 cash bail.
