DSP News Release: Smyrna Woman Critical after Crash
Location: Duck Creek Road at Joe Goldsborough Road, Smyrna, DE
Date of Occurrence: Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 6:43 p.m.

Smyrna- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious two vehicle accident which occurred just north of Smyrna yesterday evening.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. as Teresa L. Banner of Smyrna, DE was operating a Ford Fusion and was traveling westbound on Joe Goldsborough Road. Banner failed to stop her vehicle at a stop sign at the intersection of Duck Creek Road and was then struck on the left rear by a Subaru, which was traveling on northbound Duck Creek Road, and which was being operated by Mary L. Brown of Hartly, DE. After the impact, Banner’s vehicle spun in a counter clockwise direction while traveling another 34 feet before striking an embankment where it came to rest. Mary Brown’s vehicle came to rest in the center of the roadway.
Teresa Banner was transported by helicopter to the Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in critical condition with multiple injuries. Mary Brown and a 51 year old male passenger in her vehicle were transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries. The roadway was closed in the area for approximately 1.5 hours as the crash was cleared. This accident is still under investigation at this time. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
