DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigate Injury Accident in Wilmington

 

Location: Northbound Rt. 202 (Concord Pike) at Florence Drive, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Thursday, January 06, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Operator #1: Clare Page, 33, Wilmington, DE

Vehicle #1: 1999 Subaru Legacy

 

Operator #2: Edward Smith, 54, West Chester, PA

Vehicle #2: 1993 Mack flat bed truck

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police investigated a two vehicle personal injury accident that occurred late this morning on Rt. 202 in Wilmington.

 

The crash occurred as Clare Page of Wilmington, DE was operating a 1999 Subaru and was attempting to make a left hand turn from southbound Rt. 202 onto Florence Avenue. As Page entered the northbound lanes of Rt. 202 the right side of her vehicle was struck by a 1993 Mack truck that was being operated by Edward Smith of West Chester, PA.

 

A one year old rear seat passenger was trapped in the Subaru for approximately 20 minutes until he could be freed by emergency workers. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for serious non-life threatening injuries. Clare Page was also transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated for a shoulder injury. A second 1 year old rear seat passenger in Page’s vehicle was not injured. Edward Smith also was not injured.

 

Clare Page was charged by troopers for failure to yield the right of way. Smith was charged with disregarding a red light.
