DSP News Release:  Details Released of Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Operators/Vehicles:

Vehicle: 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Victim:  20 year old male

Newark- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred this morning in Newark.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. this morning as Riki Newman of Bear, DE was operating a Chevrolet Tahoe and was traveling in the right hand lane of US Rt. 40 eastbound in the area of LaGrange Avenue in Newark. Newman advised investigators that a male subject suddenly entered into the path of her vehicle from the south shoulder of the roadway and she struck him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The victim’s name will be released pending the notification of the next of kin. Riki Newman was not injured. The right hand lane of eastbound US Rt. 40 was closed as the crash was investigated.

This accident remains under investigation at this time.

Location: Eastbound US Rt. 40 (Pulaski Highway) at LaGrange Avenue, Newark, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Monday, February 28, 2011 at 5:50 a.m.

Resume:   

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred on Pulaski Highway in Newark this morning. Initial information is that the crash involved a motor vehicle and a male subject. The right hand lane of eastbound Rt. 40 is closed at the accident scene, however; traffic is flowing in the left hand lane.

The crash is still under investigation at this time. Further details will be released after they are received.
