DSP News Release: Trooper Assaulted after Ticketing Vehicle

Location: Parking lot of K-Mart Department Store, 401 Governor Square, Bear, DE

-Derrick M. Brock, 22, New Castle, DE (Offensive Touching of a Law     Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest)

-Christina E. Johnson, 21, New Castle, DE (Disorderly Conduct)

Resume:  

Bear- The Delaware State Police have arrested a 22 year old New Castle man after he assaulted a trooper late Friday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011, as a 26 year old trooper assigned to Delaware State Police Troop 2 in Newark, had just issued Derrick M. Brock of the 200 block of Romeo Drive in New Castle, a ticket for parking in the fire lane at the Governor Square Shopping Center located in Bear, DE. After being issued the ticket, Brock exited his vehicle and then began using profanity towards the trooper. Brock then re-entered his vehicle and left the fire lane, driving in an erratic manner. The trooper observed that there was an infant in Brock’s vehicle that was seated in the lap of a front seat passenger, later identified as Christina Johnson, 21. The trooper followed Brock as he sped through the parking lot of the shopping center. Brock then pulled into a parking space at which time both Derrick Brock and Christina Johnson exited the vehicle and began yelling at the trooper. The trooper then attempted to take Derrick Brock into custody, however; he resisted arrest and began punching the trooper about the face and head causing the trooper to call for assistance. Brock and the trooper continued to struggle until responding officers arrived and were able to place both him and Christiana Johnson into custody. There were no injuries.

Derrick Brock was arrested and charged with one count each of Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer. His arraignment and bail information is not available at this time. Christina Johnson was arrested for one count of Disorderly Conduct. Her arraignment and bail information were also not available.
