Update: Motorcyclist Critical After Crash

Resume Update Thursday February 24, 2011:

Dover-Lawrence W. Phinney-58 of Dover Delaware has died at Christiana Hospital from injuries sustained in a February 17, 2011 crash.  The crash occurred in the 400 block of Central Church Road W/O Kenton Road Dover. 

 

Mr. Phinney was pronounced by Christiana Medical staff at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday February 23, 2011.

  • 1997 Harley Davidson Motorcycle

 

Resume:

Dover-Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit late Thursday afternoon investigated a motorcycle crash on Central Church Road just N/O Dover Delaware. 

 

The crash occurred in the 400 block of Central Church Road around 4:55 p.m., when a 1997 Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by 58 year old Lawrence W. Phinney of Dover was traveling eastbound on Central Church Road.  Phinney upon entering a left curve in the roadway was unable to negotiate the turn and traveled off the south edge of the roadway.  Phinney was immediately ejected from his motorcycle and suffered unspecified injuries. 

 

Lawrence Phinney was transported to Kent General Hospital Dover where he is listed to be in critical condition. 

 

Phinney is believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol does NOT appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. 

 

Delaware State Police closed Central Church Road for approximately 2 hours while the crash was being investigated.
