DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigate Accident Involving Overturned Vehicle

 

Location: DE Rt. 7, Limestone Road, and DE Rt. 72, Papermill Road, Hockessin, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 10:55 a.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator: Francis C. Lawn, 61, Wilmington, DE

Vehicle: 1999 Freightliner tractor and 1999 Waba box trailer owned by Contractual Carries and D&S Warehousing of Newark, DE

 

Resume:   

Hockessin: The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a one vehicle crash involving an overturned truck that occurred late this morning in Hockessin.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. as Francis Lawn, 61, of Wilmington, DE, was operating a 1999 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer and was attempting to make a left hand turn from eastbound DE Rt. 72 onto northbound DE Rt. 7. As Lawn’s truck entered the intersection, it began to tilt to the right and eventually overturned onto the east edge of Limestone Road. The tractor and trailer then slid down a slight embankment before coming to rest.

 

Francis Lawn was transported from the scene of the crash by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Lawn was cited by troopers for traveling at an unsafe speed.

 

The trailer, which was loaded with 40,000 lbs of food grade liquid, is currently being off loaded and will eventually be up righted. The roadway is open at this time, however, it may be partially closed once the recovery and towing operation begins.
