DSP News Release:  Two Injured in Personal Injury Accident

 

Location: South Market Street Bridge, .2 miles north of US Rt. 13, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 12:45 p.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator 1: Oscar T. Foraker, 60, Wilmington, DE

Vehicle 1: 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier

 

Operator 2: William J. Nardo, 54, Middletown, DE

Vehicle 2: 1998 Dodge Stratus

 

Resume:   

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police investigated a personal injury crash in which two people were injured that occurred early this afternoon just south of Wilmington.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. this afternoon as Oscar T. Foraker, 60, was operating a 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier and was traveling southbound on the S. Market Street Bridge in the left hand lane. As Foraker’s vehicle came over the crest of the bridge, it was struck head on by a 1998 Dodge Stratus that was being operated by William J. Nardo, 54, and that had entered the southbound left hand lane from the northbound lanes of the bridge. 

 

Oscar T. Foraker was transported from the scene by helicopter to the Christiana Hospital where he was being treated for non life threatening injuries. William Nardo was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was also treated for non life threatening injuries.

 

S. Market Street was closed for approximately 1 hour as the crash was investigated and cleared. William Nardo was cited by troopers with Failure to Maintain a Lane, Driving under the Influence of Drugs, and No Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance.
