Resume:

Newark-Delaware State Police Major Crimes Detectives completed the investigation into the inappropriate sexual contact and patient abuse incidents that were reported last November and have identified the suspect.

The Delaware State Police have identified the suspect as Shyamkrishnan Ramdas-27, a former Christiana Care Health System, Post Graduate Year One Resident Internal Medicine, on 12 charges including Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd Degree and Abuse Mistreat or Neglect a Patient or Resident of Facility.

Delaware State Police assisted by the Attorney General’s Office Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, and Christiana Care Health System, interviewed victims and hospital staff, reviewed patient charts, and audited access to computer records, which led to the identification of Ramdas as the suspect in the reported incidents.

During the investigation, Detectives were contacted by three additional victims, reporting similar incidents.

Detectives determined through the course of their investigation, and Christiana Care Health System internal review and interviews, that Ramdas had accessed the computerized hospital records of the 6 victims prior to the incidents, performed “physical exams” on the victims, and failed to provide clinical documentation of the examinations in the victims’ hospital charts.  Scheduling records also indicate that Ramdas was working when the incidents occurred.

In three of the incidents it was determined that the victims were identified as “non- teaching” patients in which Ramdas had no direct patient care responsibilities, and had no authority to conduct physical exams or access their hospital records, as a Post Graduate Year One Resident.

Delaware State Police have obtained warrants for Ramdas charging him with 6 Counts Unlawful Sexual Contact Third Degree and 6 Counts Abuse Mistreat or Neglect a Patient or Resident of Facility.  The whereabouts of Ramdas are unknown at this time, as he is no longer employed by Christiana Care Health System.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Ramdas or has any information in reference to this incident, they are asked to contact Major Crimes Unit at Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.  Information may also be provided via the internet at www.tipsubmit.com
