DSP News Release:  Westbury New York Man Dies from Early Morning Crash

Resume Update:

Bridgeville-As reported early today Delaware State Police responded to US 13 and CR 40 Redden road for a serious motor vehicle crash.  The crash which occurred around 6:42 a.m. involved three vehicles a Nissan Cube, Penske Rental Truck and Jeep Wrangler. 

During the investigation it was discovered that the Nissan Cube and Penske Rental truck were stopped for a red light at the intersection of US 13 and Redden Road.  The Nissan and Penske truck were in the right hand lane of travel at the time of the crash. 

The third vehicle a Jeep Wrangler failed to observe the stopped vehicles in front of him and collided with the rear of the Penske Truck.  The Penske truck was then thrust forward striking the rear of the Nissan Cube. 

The operator of the Nissan Cube Andrew Chupp Jr of Seaford was transported to Nanticoke Hospital where he was treated for neck strain.  The Penske truck operator and a passenger did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash.  The operator of the Jeep Wrangler a 48 year old Westbury New York man was transported to Nanticoke Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.  The release of the Westbury New York man's name is pending family notification.  

State Police are continuing their investigation and seek the public’s assistance in gathering additional information concerning today’s crash.  The public is asked to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 302-644-5020 ext 112 with any information. 

The information concerning the Westbury New York man will be released later this afternoon.

Resume:

Bridgeville-Delaware State Police Troop 5 officers around 6:42 a.m. responded to a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of Bridgeville Delaware.  The crash is reported to have occurred in the northbound lanes of US 13 in the area of CR 40 Redden Road.  Preliminary information obtained indicates the crash is between a Jeep and U-Haul truck.  The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. 

Deldot has posted arrow board signs near the crash site alerting motorist of expected delays and detours.
