DSP News Release: Denton Couple Injured in Crash

Ellendale-Earlier this afternoon Delaware State Police investigated a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Fleatown Road and US 113 DuPont Boulevard. 

The crash involved two vehicles a 1995 Chevrolet 15oo pickup truck and a 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck.  The Chevrolet driven by Jacob Richard-17 of Lincoln Delaware was westbound on Fleatown Road CR 224 approaching DuPont Boulevard.  The 1987 Ford Ranger driven by Charles Cole-82 of Denton Maryland was southbound on DuPont Boulevard approaching Fleatown Road. 

Investigators have determined that Jacob Richard initially disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Fleatown Road and northbound DuPont Boulevard.  Richard then traveled into a crossover which separates the north and southbound lanes of DuPont highway and is regulated by a yield sign.  Richard failed to yield right of way to vehicles traveling southbound on DuPont Boulevard.  When Richard entered the southbound lanes he struck the Ford Ranger truck in the left rear causing the Ford to lose control.  The Ford Ranger then traveled off the roadway and rolled over onto its passenger side.

Jacob Richard and a 15 year old female passenger were not injured in the crash.  Charles and Pauline Cole husband/wife both 82 years of age from Denton Maryland were transported to Milford Memorial Hospital for unspecified injuries.  Pauline Cole is listed in stable condition at Milford Memorial.  Charles Cole is listed in critical condition and is expected to be airlifted to Christiana Hospital. 

State Police have yet to charge Jacob Richard with the cause of the crash that is still under investigation.  Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is requesting anyone with information regarding this crash to contact Police at 302-644-5020 ext 112.

Ellendale-Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a single vehicle rollover in the area of US 113 DuPont Boulevard and CR 224 Fleatown Road Ellendale. 

Preliminary information suggests that there are two patients involved in the crash however the nature of their injuries is currently unknown. 

Motorists are advised to expect delays in this area.   Additional information about this crash will be disseminated as soon as it is made available.
