Resume:

Bridgeville-Tuesday February 1, 2011 around 11:33 p.m. a Delaware State Trooper stopped a vehicle after it had committed a traffic violation.  The State Trooper was able to stop the vehicle in the parking of Royal Farms off of Sussex Highway Bridgeville. 

 

When the Trooper made contact with the 16 year old driver he was found not to have a valid license.  The Delaware State Trooper additionally observed a smell of burnt marijuana emitting from the 1999 Lexus GS 300. 

 

Delaware State Police searched the Lexus with a drug detection K-9 and recovered approximately 22 grams of marijuana individually wrapped in 11 different baggies.  Also located during the search of the Lexus were two handguns.  The handguns are a .380 caliber Bersa Piccola and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson, both of which had obliterated serial numbers.   Delaware State Police however were able to locate an additional serial number on one of the firearms. 

 

After performing a records check the two handguns were linked to a residential burglary which occurred on Ray Road Bridgeville January 28, 2011.   During the January burglary a combination of 16 firearms were stolen consisting of semi-auto handguns, revolvers, 12 gauge shotguns and a black powder gun.  Delaware State Police are continuing their investigation into locating the 14 other stolen firearms. 

 

Delaware State Police charged the 16 year old teen driver, Jackson, Banks and a17 year old with Burglary, weapons and drug crimes.  Jackson and Banks were committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of bond and the two minors remanded to the Milford Stevenson House.
