CLAYMONT WOMAN INJURED IN ONE VEHICLE CRASH


DSP News Release:  Claymont Woman Injured in One Vehicle Crash

 

Location: Southbound I-495 south of Terminal Avenue, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, February 02, 2011 at 7:50 a.m.

Operator: Rashanda C. Smith, 28, Claymont, DE

Vehicle: 2007 Ford Freestyle

 

Resume:   

Wilmington- A Claymont woman has been cited after a one vehicle rollover crash that occurred this morning on I-495.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. as Rashanda C. Smith, 28, was operating a 2007 Ford Freestyle and was traveling in the left hand lane of I-495 southbound just south of Terminal Avenue at an apparent high rate of speed. Smith lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway and struck a cement barrier in the center of the highway. Her vehicle then overturned and traveled across the southbound lanes and onto the right shoulder where it came to rest on its wheels after striking the guardrail.

 

Rashanda Smith was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she was being treated for her injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. She was cited by troopers for careless driving and failure to have proof of motor vehicle insurance in her possession. The right hand lane of I-495 southbound was closed for approximately ½ hour as the crash was cleared.
