VICTIM INJURED DURING STRONG ARM ROBBERY IN WILMINGTON


DSP News Release: Victim Injured during Strong Arm Robbery in Wilmington

 

Location:  Parking lot of Shop Rite Grocery Store, 1600 W. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, February 01, 2011 at 1:40 p.m.

 

Victim: 

 

-77 year old Newark, DE female

 

Suspects:  

 

Suspect 1: White female, 30-40 years of age with blonde hair.

 

Suspect 2: White male (no further description)

 

Resume:  

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred early this afternoon outside of Stanton.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. today as a 77 year old Newark woman was in the parking lot of the Shop Rite Store. As the victim was in the process of loading her car with groceries, she was approached by a vehicle described as being beige in color and possibly a mini-van. The victim advised that a female suspect exited the car and proceeded to grab her pocketbook that was in her shopping cart. The victim also grabbed her purse and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the victim and the suspect both fell toward the open passenger side door of the car, with the suspect falling inside. It was at this point that the male operator of the car began to drive off, dragging the victim a short distance and possibly running over her legs and hands before she let go of the purse. The vehicle then fled in an unknown direction. 

 

The victim was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she was being treated for injuries she sustained in the incident. Her injuries are not considered to be life threatening. The investigation into this incident is on going.
