DSP News Release: Man Arrested after Motel Room Assault

Location:  Budget Motel, 3 Memorial Drive, New Castle, DE

Date of Occurrence: Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.

Victim:  26 year old Wilmington, DE female (girlfriend)

Defendant: Brian Braxton, 48, Wilmington, DE

Charges:

-Assault 2^nd Degree

-Unlawful Imprisonment 2^nd Degree

-Criminal Mischief

Resume:  

New Castle- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington, DE man after an assault at a New Castle area motel early yesterday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, troopers were called to the Budget Motel located in the unit block of Memorial Drive in New Castle in reference to a disturbance in one of the rooms. Troopers arrived and were directed to the room where they heard screams coming from inside. Upon knocking on the door, a male subject, later identified as defendant Brian Braxton, 48, opened a curtain and looked out of the window of the room. Troopers could then see a female on the floor of the room crying and yelling for help. The defendant was then ordered to open the door of the room and after complying, was taken into custody.  Troopers learned that the defendant had struck the victim several times throughout the evening and when she attempted to call the police, the defendant pulled the telephone cord out of the wall and then choked her with it. The victim suffered injuries but refused medical treatment.

Brian Braxton was arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and then committed to the Department of Corrections for lack of $8750.00 secured bail.
