DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Attempted Robbery

 

Location: Wawa Convenience Store, 531 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 2:15 a.m.

 

Victim:

 

  • 20 year old male employee

 

Suspect:  

 

  • Unknown race male, 6’00”-6’04” tall, 220-250 lbs, curly black hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt with grey sleeves, a tan baseball cap, black shoes, and a grey jacket with a yellow insignia. (Surveillance footage is not available at this time)

New Castle, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the attempted robbery of a New Castle area convenience store that occurred early this morning.

 

The incident happened at approximately 2:15 a.m. this morning as a male suspect entered the Wawa Convenience Store located in the 500 block of E. Basin Road in New Castle. The suspect approached the sales counter and confronted the 20 year old store employee. He then demanded money from the store register; however, the employee was unable to open it. The suspect then threatened the victim, implying that he was armed. A weapon was not displayed, however. The suspect then fled the business without obtaining any money after a second employee approached the sales counter from the rear of the store. There were no injuries.

 

The Delaware State Police are asking anyone who may have any information in reference to this incident to contact Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 ext. 6.
