DSP News Release: Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance in Fatal Hit and Run

Dover, DE: The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in helping to locate a vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run crash in November.

On Thursday, November 17, 2011 Troopers responded to the area of Forrest Avenue west of Rose Valley School Road in Dover at approximately 7:20 a.m. for the report of a deceased male lying on the side of the road.  Some debris from a motor vehicle was found in the roadway that was consistent with the victim being struck by a car.  It is unclear at this time as to which direction the victim was walking when he was struck by the car. The victim, identified as Avery C. Wilson, 45, of Wilmington, DE, was pronounced dead at the scene. The striking vehicle fled the scene.

After further investigation investigators were able to determine that the debris found at the scene of this crash came from the lower front grille area of a 2002-2005 Audi A4.

DSP News Release: Pedestrian Struck on Forrest Avenue

Location: Forrest Avenue and Rose Valley School Road, Dover, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Sometime between Wednesday November 16, 2011 at sundown and Thursday November 17, 2011 at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Operators/Vehicles:

• Operator #1: Unknown
• Vehicle#1: Possibly an Audi or small passenger vehicle. No known color with front grill damage.

• Pedestrian: 45 year old Wilmington, DE man (name will be released at a later time)

Dover, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently searching for the driver who fled from the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred last night west of Dover.

Troopers responded to the area of Forrest Avenue west of Rose Valley School Road around 7:20 a.m. for a report of a deceased male lying on the side of the road.  Some debris from a motor vehicle was found in the roadway that was consistent with the victim being struck by a car.  It is unclear at this time as to which direction the victim was walking when he was struck by the car.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

This crash remains under investigation at this time. Forrest Avenue was partially closed for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

The identity of the victim will be released pending the notification of the next of kin.

DSP News Release: Pedestrian Struck on Forest Avenue

Location: Forrest Avenue and Rose Valley School Road, Dover, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Thursday November 17, 2011 at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Resume:

Dover, DE-The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning west of Dover.

The initial investigation has revealed that a male subject has been struck by a motor vehicle.

Troopers have shut down both Forrest Avenue (State Route 8) around the scene of the crash and commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel.

The investigation into this crash is in its early stages and more information will be released at a later time.
